Dhërmi, a small coastal village nestled between the Ionian Sea and the Ceraunian Mountains, is often celebrated for its crystal-clear waters and stunning beaches. Known as a hidden gem on Albania’s Riviera, Dhërmi attracts visitors looking to relax and unwind in a more serene setting. The village also boasts a charming mix of traditional stone houses and newer beach bars, offering something for both culture lovers and sunseekers.

However, in our experience, Dhërmi was the least impressive destination during our travels. Perhaps it was the time of year (September), but the area felt unusually quiet and lifeless, with the coastline appearing somewhat neglected and dirty. Locals mentioned that during the summer months, Dhërmi transforms into a lively, budget-friendly party hub for young travelers, which may explain the difference in atmosphere.

How to get there?

There are several ways to travel from Tirana to Dhërmi, whether you prefer public transport, a taxi, or driving yourself. Here's a breakdown of your options:

By Bus Buses run twice daily from Tirana to Dhërmi, with departures at 5:30 AM and 1:00 PM. Both buses are headed to Himarë but stop in Dhërmi along the way. The early bus leaves Tirana at 5:30 AM and reaches Dhërmi by 9:04 AM, while the afternoon bus departs at 1:00 PM and arrives around 4:34 PM. The trip takes approximately 3 hours and 35 minutes.

A one-way bus ticket costs 1,000 Leke (approximately €8.25). It's important to have some cash on hand, either in Albanian Leke or Euros, as bus operators typically do not accept card payments. The services are run by two companies: Olgeno and Riviera.

By Taxi If you're looking for more convenience, you can take a taxi. The journey from Tirana to Dhërmi by taxi takes around 3.5 hours. If you’re traveling directly from Tirana’s airport, expect to pay around €135 for an official airport taxi.

By Car For flexibility and the chance to explore along the way, renting a car is a great option. We opted to rent a car in Tirana through Booking.com and chose a Jeep Patriot, perfect for four people. We rented it for three days and returned it at the airport, all for €256. This option allowed us to set our own pace and enjoy the scenic drive down the Albanian coast.
