Bukig Lawang

Garden Inn Homestay

We stayed at Hostel Garden Inn, a charming and affordable spot perfect for travelers seeking both comfort and convenience in Bukit Lawang. For a double room, prices range between 20-25 euros per night, making it an excellent choice for budget-conscious travelers. They also offer larger family rooms or spacious bungalows that can accommodate up to six people, ideal for groups or families looking for a bit more space.

One of the highlights of our stay was the cozy bar at Garden Inn, a great place to unwind. Whether sipping on iced coffee or a cold beer, we spent many relaxing hours here, planning our next adventures. The laid-back atmosphere made it easy to meet other travelers and share stories.

Dining options in Bukit Lawang are plentiful, with numerous restaurants and bars lining the riverbanks. From local Indonesian dishes to Western favorites, there’s something to satisfy every palate, and the beautiful riverside setting only enhances the experience.

Upon arriving in Yogyakarta just after noon, we checked in at the Abrakadabra 747 Homestay, where we stayed for two nights. Their personal touches and genuine hospitality really set this place apart.

The rooms were simple yet cozy, with a unique feature that we absolutely loved—outdoor showers. It was such a refreshing and fun way to end the day after hours of wandering through Yogyakarta’s busy streets. The homestay also boasted a small but charming pool, surrounded by lush greenery, where we spent our afternoons cooling off, relaxing, and chatting with fellow travelers.

Abrakadabra 747 Homestay proved to be a perfect retreat for unwinding after exploring the temples, markets, and street food of Yogyakarta, offering a wonderful balance of relaxation and adventure.

Labuan Bajo

Eco Tree O'tel

In Labuan Bajo, we stayed at several accommodations due to our last-minute decision to extend our stay for more diving adventures. For our first two nights, we chose Eco Tree O'tel, a hotel perfectly situated in the heart of Labuan Bajo, within walking distance of various restaurants, bars, and shops. The rooms were immaculate, and the staff's friendliness made our stay even more enjoyable.

Eco Tree Labuan Bajo

We dined at the hotel's restaurant for both breakfast and dinner, and the food exceeded our expectations. One of the highlights was the restaurant's breathtaking view, offering a stunning sunset over the water each evening. The hotel also provides the convenience of scooter rentals and detailed information about local activities, making it an excellent base for exploring the area.

A double room at Eco Tree O'tel costs around 107 euros for two nights, offering both comfort and value in a central location.

Persona Room & Restaurant Hotel

During our three-day diving trip, we stayed at another hotel, Persona Room & Restaurant Hotel, where we were only for sleeping. Although we didn't try the food there, the rooms and staff were commendable. However, the Persona hotel is a bit farther from the center, requiring a fairly steep climb to reach on foot. A double room costs around 40 euros for two nights.

Seaesta Komodo Hostel
Seaesta hostel

For our final days on Flores, we stayed at the Seaesta Komodo Hostel & Hotel in Labuan Bajo, which we highly recommend. This vibrant spot offers both shared dorms and private rooms. A bed in a shared room costs about 14 euros per night, while a private double room with an en-suite bathroom costs around 130 euros for two nights.

The rooms and bathrooms are impeccably maintained, and the amenities are top-notch. The hostel boasts a fantastic pool, a lively bar, a fitness center, and serves delicious meals throughout the day, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Seaesta is an ideal spot for meeting fellow backpackers and young travelers, making it a social and welcoming place to stay in Labuan Bajo.
